Update on Booster Jabs in HK

Along with the Chief Executive’s expert advisory panel (EAP), the scientific committee on Vaccine Preventable Diseases and the Scientific Committee on Emerging and Zoonotic Diseases discussed and subsequently updated consensus interim recommendations on COVID-19 vaccination. The key topics highlighted included the use of a third dose of COVID-19 vaccines and co-administration of COVID-19 vaccines with other vaccines.

The main takeaway was the recommendation of an additional dose of COVID-19 vaccine for those who had already received two doses of the CoronaVac vaccine. There was particular emphasis on the need for a third dose for people with a higher risk of infection, which includes elderly aged 60 or above, healthcare workers and people with compromised immune systems. It was advised that the third dose should be administered at least six months from the second dose.
