It should come as no surprise, but the HK government has chosen to extend the health restrictions in place for 14 more days, until September 29. The government’s press release emphasised that these restrictions will continue to impact restaurants, bars and catering business in the same way as before, with no leniency being given to the industry. Moreover, the restriction on group gatherings of more than four people will remain until the 29th as well. This extension was justified by citing the high transmissibility of new mutant strains showing up around the world. This, when combined with the fact that vaccination rates are relatively low for the elderly, is more than enough reason for the government to not loosen any restrictions in the immediate future.
