If you ever passed by Queen’s road in Central, you would have noticed that one building in particular has been under construction for what seems like forever: the Central Market. Now, after nearly two decades and $500 million HKD, Central Market is set to re-open. The long wait brings new infrastructure which aims to enable the market to move beyond just being a retail space for you to shop at. The goal is to try to extend its function as a host to different social and cultural events that you may want to attend.
Such ambitions are what warranted the hefty price tag and the long duration of the reconstruction. For those of us who never got to experience the market before it was closed in 2003, now is the chance for us to finally connect with the history that this iconic building has to offer.
